De film zal worden ingeleid door Kevin Toma, filmjournalist van de Volkskrant en een groot Trenque Lauquen-fan. Toma: “Het wonderbaarlijke, ontzettend menselijke, intieme, tragikomische, spannende én fraai mysterieuze Trenque Lauquen is een slow cinema-mix van Jacques Rivette en David Lynch, met vleugjes van Twin Peaks, Hitchcocks Psycho en Otto Premingers Laura, maar dan zonder geweld. En vooral: volkomen eigen en uniek. Ik sta perplex van wat dit prachtig gefotografeerde meesterwerk aan schatten te bieden heeft, of je hem nu voor het eerst ziet of opnieuw bezoekt. Trenque Lauquen is mijn absolute nummer 1-film.

Storyline

A woman vanishes. Two men take to the road in search of her: they both love her. Why did she leave? Each one of them has his own suspicions, and hides them from the other one who – mysteriously – never truly becomes his rival. Neither is right – but is anyone? This sudden run away becomes the hidden core of a number of fictions that the film delicately weaves together: the secret of the heart of another woman, lost as well, many years ago; the secret of the life of a village in the countryside, governed by a supernatural incident that nobody seems to perceive; the secret of the plains, which never ceases to spread and devour everything, like the shadows that invade the world after the twilight hour.

Over de spreker

Kevin Toma (1974) studeerde Filmwetenschappen in Nijmegen. Hij schrijft sinds 2007 over film voor de Volkskrant. Daarnaast geeft hij veelvuldig lezingen en cursussen door het hele land en is hij zowel componist als uitvoerder van nieuwe muziek voor zwijgende films. In 2024 kreeg hij voor zijn werk de Louis Hartlooper Oeuvreprijs.”
