PAOLA RANDI RETURNS WITH A POIGNANT UNDERGROUND COMEDY SET IN THE DREAMY, ROMANTIC CITY OF MILAN.
We have closely followed Paola Randi’s career over the years, screening some of her most interesting works, including her entertaining debut, *Into Paradiso,* and the surprising *Tito e gli alieni.* Now, she returns to comedy with a compelling urban fairy tale that blends elements of a coming-of-age story, a love story, and a tale of friendship.
The protagonist, Gollum (Gabriele Monti), serves as the silent voice-over narrator. He earns the nickname “Gollum” from neighborhood bullies because he doesn’t speak. However, he communicates through his thoughts and writing, expressing himself by leaving graffiti on every wall he encounters. Accompanying him are Frank (Samulele Teneggi), a young urban poet skilled with words, and Nina (the talented Ludovica Nasti), a young gypsy girl who has been forced by life to grow up too quickly. Nina already has a young daughter with “Il Duce,” a crude and violent petty criminal from the suburbs.
Set against a realistic yet dreamy and romantic backdrop of Milan, the trio embarks on misadventures as they attempt to escape the clutches of the child’s foolish father. Rich in artistic and cultural references, the film participated in the Venice Film Festival’s Orizzonti section, where it won the Lanterna Magica award. It was also nominated for Best Comedy at the Nastri d’Argento and Globo d’Oro 2025 awards and won the Teen Movie award at the Sofia International Film Festival. The film has been featured in numerous other international festivals, including the Göteborg Film Festival and the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.
